VAR review shows lucky escape for Newcastle United as Mag avoids four-game ban – Report

An independent VAR review has declared that Newcastle received a lucky escape in our recent clash with Wolves, believing Nick Pope should’ve seen red and conceded a penalty in our 2-1 win at St James’ Park.

Five minutes before the Magpies took the lead, this incident – where Pope makes clear contact with Jimenez following his poor first touch – could have completely changed the outcome of the match.

As revealed by The Mail, the independent panel have concluded that a penalty should have been given and a red card shown to the England international for the second time in three games; meaning he would’ve been suspended for FOUR games.

However, neither the referee, who was quite far away from the incident, nor VAR saw any reason to overturn the call, leaving Wolves supporters incensed in a game we went on to win.

As for Newcastle fans, there have so many poor VAR decisions that have gone against us throughout this season; just look at Willock’s goal against Crystal Palace and Anderson’s disallowed header last Friday.
