TalkSPORT: Newcastle eyeing £50m man as contract stand-off continues – One to watch?

Since Eddie Howe took the Newcastle United job, I don’t think there’s been a transfer window where we haven’t been linked with Conor Gallagher.

A move for the Chelsea midfielder may underwhelm some Toon fans, but talkSPORT are reporting that we are one of two clubs showing a keen interest in his contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has been one of their top performers this season and scored a stunner to earn them a point in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, but their recently appointed captain could be set to leave this summer.

He’s out of contract in 12 months time and is yet to be offered a new deal, with a stand-off continuing. TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has revealed that Newcastle and Spurs are keeping tabs on the England international, who is valued at £50m by Chelsea.

It’s been suggested that the Blues must raise £100m this summer, ideally from home grown talent, to avoid an FFP breach and some feel Gallagher will be sacrificed.

Given our long-term interest – we tried to sign him on loan on multiple occasions in years gone by – along with Gallagher’s age, work rate versatility, leadership and Premier League experience, he does feel like just the sort of player Eddie Howe could target if he became available this summer.

  1. Wouldn’t have him if he had a million pound note tied to his backside.
    Dirty player with minimal skill.

  2. Underwhelmed doesn’t come close to covering it.
Yes – we’ve tried to get him on loan – we’d have taken anyone on loan in the last couple of seasons as long as we didn’t have to buy them.
As for PremAndUp saying his stats are close to Bruno’s – I’m guessing those stats are “incomplete passes”, “running up blind alleys” and “falling overs when it all goes pear-shaped!”
To be honest, which is probably not this blogs strong point, if someone turns up with 100 million I hope we bite their hand off.

  3. If we are going to get him we might as well stay with Longstaff very similar player just as incompetent and cost less.
