Newcastle release surprise Gareth Southgate interview – Watch here

It’s not often you see a Premier League club release an exclusive interview with the England manager, but Newcastle United have done exactly that following Gareth Southgate’s recent trip to Tyneside.

After traveling to St James’ Park to attend a fan forum event on Monday night, Southgate sat down with NUFC TV to discuss a host of topics in an eight-minute interview (watch it in full below).

Southgate paid tribute to the late, great Sir Bobby Robson, discussed the supporters event held at St James’ Park this week, England’s upcoming trip to Tyneside to face Bosnia & Herzegovina on June 3rd and our preparations for EURO 2024.

The 53-year-old also shared his thoughts on Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Jamaal Lascelles, Elliot Anderson and Nick Pope, praising the ‘English core’ Eddie Howe has created.

He described Trippier as an ‘important part’ of his England squad, hailing his quality, leadership and versatility before praising Anthony Gordon; who he hailed for his debut performances for the Three Lions in March.

Southgate singled out Gordon’s consistency this season and ability to produce in big games, feeling he showed his ability to deliver in elite level knockout ties in the UEFA Champions League.

Interestingly, he also hinted that Anderson will soon be called up to one of the junior teams ‘very soon’ following his impressive performances in midfield, adding that there’ll be some Newcastle players involved in his squad when England take on Bosnia & Herzegovina next month.
