Newcastle pushing to sign Everton star ahead of Bayern and Arsenal – Report

Newcastle are battling Arsenal and Bayern Munich over the signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to a new report.

In an exclusive from Football Transfers, it’s claimed all three clubs have done the ‘most legwork’ up until this point to secure his signature, with the 6ft 4′ Belgian expected to leave the Toffees this summer.

Jacque Talbot reports that Newcastle are ‘hopeful’ that previous discussions with Everton will boost their hopes of striking a deal, as Toon chiefs successfully negotiated a £45m deal for Anthony Gordon last January.

However, Arsenal and Bayern are also in the market for a midfielder this summer and will pose tough competition if they make formal moves for the 22-year-old.

Newcastle’s interest in Onana was confirmed in January, but it’s believed PSR limited our ability to spend big in the winter window. Since then, Joelinton – another powerful box-to-box midfielder – has signed a new deal at the club, so it’ll be interesting to see if we still plan to bolster our engine room this summer.

  1. Surely any report on us pursuing a central mid has to be click bait unless we’re expecting Bruno to leave? Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton, longstaff, Willock, Anderson and Miley vying for 3 spots?
Besides, in recent history our signings have come basically out of the blue.

I take your point, but it was clear we wanted a midfielder in January and it’s not clear if Longstaff will stay now he’s got 12 months left on his contract.

Aye you’ve got a point with longy like, especially with him being a pure profit player in this mental PSR world we’re in.
