Back-Up Keeper Finally Found
There is some big news to bring you at the start of the week as plenty of stories have broken this morning regarding Newcastle United. As usual, we will bring the top stories here and break them down into a nice digestible package for you lovely people.
Transfer news is always fun to indulge in and even more so if you like to have a flutter as it gives you the opportunity to make a few quid, although personally, I tend to do better playing some of the Best Live casino games as they rule are bit clearer, especially with this financial fair play nonsense that we currently have looming over the Premier League.
Odysseas Vlachodimos Signs For The Club
So the big news on Monday morning is very welcome news. Newcastle United have finally signed a goalkeeper. Recruitment in this area has been needed with the club having let a number of keepers leave the club, but now it seems that whole has been plugged and Newcastle United have some that can deputise for Nick Pope when called upon. Vlachodimos is a quality goalkeeper in his own right as well so this is a brilliant addition to the squad I feel.
The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience on both European and international stages, having made 41 career appearances in the UEFA Champions League and earning 42 senior international caps.
The Greek international is actually from Germany having being born in Stuttgart, Odysseas started his career with VfL Wangen and VfB Stuttgart, representing Germany up to the Under-21 level.
After spending two and a half years with Panathinaikos in Greece, his family's homeland, he joined Portuguese powerhouse Benfica and switched his international allegiance to the Greek national team. I feel changing alliances was probably due to the fact the German national team had the services of Manuel Neur, and if we are being honest no one was getting that man out of the starting eleven, especially in his prime years.
It should be noted that Odysseas is used to winning things as well. During his five-year stint in Lisbon, Odysseas secured two Primeira Liga titles before making a move to England to join Nottingham Forest in September 2023. Not too shabby if you ask me, more experienced players in the dressing room used to winning titles can only be a net positive to the squad and create a winning mentality.
Key Quotes From Odysseas And The Gaffer
Odysseas remarked on the Newcastle United Club Website: "I am very happy to be joining Newcastle United. It's an honour for me to be part of this huge club, with excellent players and a great coach. I can't wait to get started!"
Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe, commented: "Odysseas is very experienced at elite European and international level, and he joins a strong group of senior goalkeepers. That strength in depth is valuable and means we go into the new season with strong competition in a key area".
I think the gaffer is bang on the money here with his statments and its nice to see our new keeper seems to be up to the challenge. Hopefully, we get a few more key players through the door sooner rather than later.
