News About Toon: New Defender Signs For The Club And Backroom Staff Set To Be Bolstered
Happy Tuesday Magpies! I hope everyone is in a good mood, I certainly am after watching England win on penalties over the weekend. Again I feel the performance could have been a lot better. The Three Lions haven't seemed to play fast-flowing football all tournament, but we go into the semi-finals. Maybe Anthony Gordon should finally get a chance as he would certainly liven up the attack.
Gordon doesn't seem to be getting a look in at all with Southgate for whatever reason though and according to some of the best websites that provide popular casino games he is 12/1 to feature against the Netherlands. Anyway, you are probably here for your daily dose of Newcastle United news so let's get on with that shall we?
Newcastle Women Sign New Defender
Yet another player has made their way to St James Park after an influx of players in this arrived at the club last month, albeit with a few departures as well. This time though it's the Newcastle Women's team that has acquired the services of someone needed in a key position, and it's a signing that will surely bolster the defensive line for the upcoming season.
Newcastle United have acquired former Reading defender Deanna Cooper after the demotion of Reading's women’s team. In a devastating turn of events caused by the lack of financial support from owner Dai Yongge, the Royals' once-revered women’s programme has had to drastically cut back as a cost-saving measure. This, of course, is a huge shame when it happens to any club, but The Magpies would be foolish not to take advantage of situations like this and improve the squad wherever possible.
Cooper, who won the WSL twice with Chelsea, has joined Newcastle after four years and nearly 70 appearances with Reading. Following consecutive promotions, the Magpies will compete in the Women’s Championship next season and we all hope they can do the business and have great success next season.
Backroom Staff Set To Be Bolstered
A search for a new addition to Eddie Howes' team is now underway, with the sole aim of improving the club's analytical processes. The Toon are set to appoint a new post-match analyst who will collaborate closely with Eddie Howe and help him assess data which will then be used to help improve performance on the pitch. Lots of clubs are now relying on top-quality data analysts to push their respective clubs forward so it's welcome news that The Magpies are also improving the backroom staff in such a key area when it comes to modern football.
So I guess you are all wondering what this role entails and how it will help the gaffer. Essentially this new analyst will work hand-in-hand with Eddie Howe and the first-team coaching staff to provide top-quality video and data-driven analysis. The role is described as having a "direct contribution to first-team performance" and is seen as an "outstanding opportunity to directly impact the continued growth of an ambitious Premier League club."
The responsibilities of the new analyst will include developing and leading an elite post-match analysis process. This involves creating team, unit, and individual video and data feedback for Howe, the first-team coaches, and players. The analyst will handle short, medium, and long-term post-match analysis projects, such as post-match feedback, individual player development programs, and reviewing past performances against opponents. Additionally, they will develop core technical and tactical workflows and supporting databases, such as defensive principles of play.
I get some people thinking that these roles are killing the game as they feel football is becoming too analytical and data-driven, but if we are to compete for the highest honours then these are the things we need to be doing to make our way to the top.
