News Of The Toon: Isak Fee Set By Board And Andreas Pereira Incoming?
So here we are at the end of the working week on a lovely Friday in June. England have somehow finished top of their group at the European Championships and Anthony Gordon seems to have fallen off his bike and hurt his chin in training. Of course, as we are now approaching the weekend it's probably a good time to review all the news and see what's been going on at our illustrious football club. Enjoy!
Huge Fee Quoted To Rival Clubs For Alexander Isak
First up some news about our star striker. It's no secret that clubs have taken an interest in the Swedish international after a couple of fantastic seasons at St James' Park, and it seems to the board is going to everything in their power to try and keep him while those clubs circle like vultures.
The Swedish international had already made a name for himself at Real Sociedad before his move to Tyneside. What his time at the Magpies has done is solidified that reputation and enabled him to showcase his talents regularly in difficult match-ups. For Isak, who will likely be among the favourites for the Golden Boot in the Premier League, he now needs to move to a bigger team to advance his career.
Betting on Isak to make the jump will be a common occurrence this summer. Using a welcome bonus to check out the odds and place a bet will mean certain punters can take the risk without depositing funds. Especially as it might be less likely that Newcastle need to sell.
The Newcastle United board has informed Chelsea and Arsenal that only an astronomical offer could change their stance. Chelsea has made an initial inquiry for the Swedish striker, but their financial constraints, due to profitability and sustainability rules (PSR), cast doubt on their ability to afford a sum possibly exceeding £100m for the 24-year-old.
Some reports are even suggesting that Chelsea would need to break their £115m record, set by signing Moisés Caicedo from Brighton last August. Eddie Howe plans to build his team around our star striker, but for silly money like that as much as I would love to keep him I think £115 or more would be too irresistible to turndown, as it would massively help our own PSR situation.
The end game here though is to keep the player as The Magpies will seek to extend Isak's contract this summer, confident that the forward, who is happy and settled in the north-east, will stay. His contract runs until 2028, and he has scored 35 goals in 67 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Real Sociedad for around £65m two years ago.
Andreas Pereira On The Way Up North?
This one may start to gain some traction over the next few weeks as it's well-known that Eddie Howe is particularly interested in Pereira, especially if one of The Toon's current midfielders leaves.
Pereira, who won honours while on loan in Brazil and returned to the national team, did not secure major silverware at Manchester United. With Pereira seemingly looking to leave Fulham after a transfer to German Giants Bayern Munich fell through last summer, Newcastle could persuade him that St. James’ Park is the ideal place to pursue trophies as the club is certainly on the up. Last season, Pereira was a crucial player for Fulham, contributing 10 goal involvements in the Premier League.
Pereira is currently valued at around £17 million so if this one comes off it would be a shrewd bit of business.
