Newcastle open talks with two players and future 'uncertain' despite contract clause

Craig Hope has released another Newcastle United 'exclusive' for The Mail, revealing that the club have opened talks over two more new contracts and look set to extend Sean Longstaff's deal.

Hope reveals that Toon chiefs have initiated talks with the representatives of Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth, with both players out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Swede and Swiss - who happen to be neighbours - are thought to be happy on Tyneside and two players valued by Eddie Howe, who believes the pair still have 'plenty to give' despite entering their 30s. Making sure neither leave on a free next summer seems to make sense for all parties.

As for Longstaff, Hope reveals that Newcastle will soon trigger our option to extend his contract by a further year, as he too is currently out of contract in 2025. However, it's believed he is facing an 'uncertain' future, as Toon chiefs must decide whether to open talks over a long-term deal beyond 2026 or cash in at some stage over the next two transfer windows.
