Newcastle eyeing Sandro Tonali's Italy teammate with £43m deal on offer - Report

In a follow up to recent reports, it seems a certain Serie A striker may indeed be on Newcastle United's radar heading into the summer.

A number of names have already been linked, with Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, Lille's Jonathan David, Ipswich's Liam Delap and Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike all linked in recent weeks.

However, there is a familiar name to Premier League fans now impressing in Italy who is thought to be emerging as a target ahead of the summer.

Newcastle watching Italian striker?

A fortnight ago, we covered a report from Italian claiming Newcastle ‘very much like’ Fiorentina striker Moise Kean and had entered the race to bring him back to England.

Now, The Chronicle's Lee Ryder reports that the former Everton, PSG and Juventus forward is on our radar, stating that scouts from Newcastle and West Ham have been in Italy to check on his performances.

Currently enjoying the best season of his career in Florence with 20 goals in 34 appearance's, it's emerged that the 25-year-old has a £43m release clause in his contract that's active until the end of July.

It's thought Fiorentina are open to a sale to raise funds, meaning there could be some scope for negotiation at a fee slightly below his buyout clause.

As the second top scorer in the Serie A this season, and having recently been called up to the Italian National Team by Luciano Spalletti, it looks like Kean's career is only going upwards from here.

Eager to impress in the Premier League

To say Kean’s previous stint in the Premier League at Everton was a difficult one would be an understatement.

However, Ryder reiterates that Kean could be looking to right the wrongs of his previous Premier League stint, and at only 25-years-old, impress on the big stage once again.

Promising potential or a player to avoid?

During his Everton days, Kean found himself dropped from both Marco Silva and Roberto Mancini’s squads at club and international level respectively over disciplinary issues, amidst concerns about his then-professionalism.

In the five years since however, Kean looks to have not only boosted his reliability but his overall game as well.

Whilst £43m may seem steep for a player with only one truly great season in his career, that being his current one at Fiorentina, the current striker market in Europe is dire, and barring a potential revisit of a Hugo Ekitike transfer, Newcastle could have the best possible buy available in the in-form Moise Kean.
