Clyne on the Tyne?
Newcastle United are said to be "ready to snap up" Crystal Palace's highly rated 21-year-old right back, Nathaniel Clyne, according to The Mirror.
Clyne is out of contract in the summer and could walk away from Selhurst Park without a transfer fee although any deal would have to go to a tribunal to determine a level of compensation both teams would be happy with. Crystal Palace are said to be looking for around £5m in compensation, but realistically they won't get anywhere near that.
With Danny Simpson looking increasingly likely to leave the club over the summer, reinforcements will be needed. Clyne is young, has pace and power and fits the profile of what the club are looking for so it wouldn't surprise me if we've at least been looking at him.
I'm aware of him, as are a whole host of posters probably, but some won't be which is why I've posted that video. His pace is on show, as are his defensive work, willingness to run and ability to pose a threat in attack.
To me it's a no-brainer and we should seriously look at signing the lad. He has a great future in the game and can only improve as he plays at a higher level. In fact I'd say we should try and sign him regardless of what happens with Danny Simpson, Mathieu Debuchy or anyone else for that matter!
Anyone agree?
