Closed for (incoming) business?

Kevin Mababu- I don't wanna dance... Well it's transfer deadline day and for once we're left not counting the numbers of new faces we still need to add to our squad.

And now I hear that we're pretty much done in terms of incoming transfers aside from, signing a youngster from Switzerland maybe, and I have to say I'm not too bothered about the fact we're done.

Yes I would have liked us to get another striker "over the line" but in fairness to the board and manager we've seen our team and squad bolstered with five new additions this month. Granted we'd still be thin up front should Papiss Cisse fall victim to injury but we have signed Yoan Gouffran who can operate there so it's not like we've signed nobody in attack.

So what do we know about potentially our final recruit? Well Kevin Mbabu (Vic Reeves would have fin with that name!) is aged at just 17 so would be one for the future no doubt. He's been attracting the attention of Arsenal and Manchester City which is a good sign I guess and can play in defence and in midfield. To date he has made just one senior appearance for his current club Servette. As you can see, not a lot is known about him other than his name sounding like it belongs on 'Shooting Stars' and himself looking like he belongs on 'Stars In Their Eyes' covering Milli Vanilli.

Girl you know it's true. Oooh Oooh Oooh I love you... Anyway.

So basically aside from Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and maybe this young chap above we're done for incoming transfers at least.

Going out could be different. We're always at risk of selling if the bid is high enough so I'm not ruling out one of our "blue chip" players leaving today. It would be madness and would destroy the feel good factor that has built over the last week or so but that is business as they say.

There are rumours over Danny Simpson leaving which actually wouldn't cause an issue as such as we have plenty of options at full-back these days. I'd be sad to see him go and don't think he has been as bad as some make him out to be so if he goes it will be with a "thank-you" rather than a "f**k off" like some previous players.

In fact I'd probably use the latter option as my final words for Xisco who could also be on the move today apparently. Whatever happens he'll be gone in the summer regardless but shifting his ample salary (thanks Dennis!) off the wagebill for the rest of the season would be nice.

So, for the moment anyway, not a lot is brewing at St James' Park. Always be on guard of course, but, and I say this whilst touching various pieces of wood, I don't think we'll see any nasty shocks today so just sit back and enjoy the media frenzy at other clubs.

Of course that could all change...
