Alan Shearer's reaction to Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey's England snub - he's not happy
Alan Shearer has admitted he is 'very surprised' to see NUFC duo Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey fail to make today's England squad - seeming quite uninspired by the players Gareth Southgate has chosen instead.
At centre-back, Southgate has handed debut call-ups to Burnley's James Tarkowski and Swansea's Alfie Mawson (ahead of Lascelles), whilst Leicester's Harry Maguire and Liverpool's Joe Gomez have also made it.
In midfield, there's places for West Brom's Jake Livermore, Bournemouth's Lewis Cook, Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere - with several fans wondering quite how Livermore has earned a call-up over Shelvey.
One of them is Alan Shearer, with the former England striker seeming bemused to see the in-form NUFC duo miss out on Southgate's squad yet again.

"Having looked at this squad I'm VERY surprised Lascelles and Shelvey haven't made it."
You're not the only one Alan.
Tarkowski's call-up is fair given Burnley outstanding season (conceding the fourth least goals in the league) however Mawson's involvement is an odd one. Has he been good for Swansea? Yes. Is he a better defender or leader than Lascelles? No.
There's an argument against Shelvey (inconsistent and issues with temperament), but the fact the Livermore has been selected ahead of him is laughable. He's been involved in antics in Spain and has been doing very little in an awful West Brom side.

The fact that Southgate has picked Hart (and FOUR goalkeepers) says it all. The former Man City man has been dreadful for two seasons now and has struggled to even get in a poor West Ham team of late.
Our gain, their loss.
