Mikel Merino set to make spectacular demand as he pushes to secure NUFC exit - Reports
According to the latest claims from Spain, Mikel Merino will ask his any new club to insert a €60m release clause in his contract to give himself a chance of 'earning a move to an even bigger club'.
Spanish outlet AS claim that the Spaniard has now asked to leave Newcastle - and it sounds like we may be willing to cash in (£13m asking price reported today), with Real Sociedad and Real Betis believed to be in talks to sign him.
Back to Merino's demands and I don't know about you but I'd be a little frustrated if an incoming player was immediately asking for a clause in his contract so he can secure a bigger and better move.
Fair play if he's simply showing ambition, but it smacks of him seeing any potential new club as nothing more than a stepping stone. We know how that feels and it's not nice.
Also, he's a talent but
Personally, I'd like to keep him at the club in an ideal world. He's a real talent and someone who we all had high hopes for just a few months ago, however there's no point holding onto a player who doesn't want to be to here.
What I will say is we'd be silly not to insert a sell on clause agreed. These Spanish sides (Bilbao, Betis and Real Sociedad) all seem extremely keen to sign him, so let's make take advantage of that.
