Shola Ameobi makes shameless comments about Mike Ashley live on Sky
Ex-NUFC striker Shola Ameobi was part of the Sky punditry team that covered Newcastle's opening day clash with Spurs yesterday, and he made some very strange comments about Mike Ashley in the build up - suggesting the owner deserves 'credit'.
Here's what he had to say in the build up to the game:

To say these comments didn't go down well with Newcastle is an understatement, with many rightfully baffled to see Shola defend the NUFC owner - especially after a summer where our net spend was MINUS £20m.
Here's what fans have had to say about his comments on Twitter:
'RIP Shola Ameobi, I loved you once but now you’re a Mike Ashley loving infidel.''Shearer and Ameobi demonstrating yesterday the difference between a club legend and a club failure, on the pitch and now off it too.'
'We are NOT expecting to compete with Liverpool / Man City (HATE when this is said), but we don't expect to be left behind by West Ham / Wolves / Fulham.'
'All my respect for him has gone after those comments the fact he called him Mike makes it sound like they are buddies.'
'Has Shola taken a bung from Keith Bishop with his positive comments there about how ‘Mike’ has stabilised the club & we’re now debt free????'
'Disappointing is an understatement.'
'Lost a bit of respect for Shola there.'
'love Shola but he’s got it all wrong in this pre-match build up. He just said “credit to Ashley for stabilising the club over the past ten years”. Also said that we can be “quietly happy” about the business in the window. Bizarre."
'Alan Shearer speaks about NUFC like a genuine supporter of the club. Shola Ameobi speaks like someone after the Ashley shilling doing what he's told like a good little boy.'
Here's what Shearer had to say about it all on Match of the Day:

Poor from Shola. You expect much better from a bloke who you'd think would 'get it' after years on Tyneside.
