Theory emerges following the latest takeover development at NUFC – Could this be right?

by Olly Hawkins · 2 October 2018, 16:01

A theory has emerged from NUFC fans following news that Peter Kenyon is now assembling a bid to buy Newcastle United - with many believing that this is yet another smokescreen enabling Mike Ashley to avoid spending money in January once again.

Given what happened this time last year - with Staveley's 'interest' a convenient excuse for Ashley to sanction nothing but loan deals - I don't blame any Newcastle United fan coming to this conclusion and being immediately sceptical.

There's something fishy about the timing of it all - especially when it happened to all coincide with Ashley's first appearance at St James' Park in sixteen months.

Here's what several NUFC fans have been saying on Twitter following news of Kenyon's interest - with many believing the exact same thing; that it's just another big smokescreen to get Ashley out of spending money:

"This time last year, stories started to emerge of Amanda Staveley having an interest in buying . We spent nothing in January. I fully expect the Kenyon takeover talk to drag on through January, where we will spend nothing again."

"The Peter Kenyon story is all fiction and being lead by Ashley and his henchmen. Gives him the perfect excuse not to spend in January....’With the uncertainty of a potential takeover no funds were made available’....can see it already. Laying the foundations to save money."

"Can’t beat a fake takeover story to avoid spending in January. An Ashley classic."

"It’s all just a keith bishop smoke screen to stop the protests and also probably another reason to not spend in January due to still being in “talks” over a takeover"

"So essentially no credible takeover interest in current situation, January window will pass without investment due to "possible takeover" and club drifts to relegation. When value of club drops and Ashley doesn't sell because he won't make a profit."

"Look when the last time takeover talk appeared. 2009. 2017. And now 2018. What’s the common theme..Newcastle doing poorly in the league. Fat slug will use this excuse of a takeover not to buy anyone in January. To sum up. Not going to happen."

"Dont think for one second Ashley is too bothered about creating takeover talks to generate an excuse not to spend in January. We’re way past him keeping up appearances with the fans."

"Nothing like a protracted takeover story in the lead-up to the January transfer window..."

Do you agree with this? Or do you think Kenyon's interest is genuine and that it could actually happen this time?

I don't know what to believe anymore - but I would not put it past Ashley to have an ulterior motive here. He's the king of them.
