Ex-Premier League manager tipped to replace Rafa Benitez at NUFC

by Olly Hawkins · 3 October 2018, 12:26

According to TV pundit Charlie Nicholas, Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to be Celtic manager come the end of January - and he's tipping him to become the next manager of Newcastle United.

Despite winning the treble in 2017 and 2018, his future at Celtic is in serious doubt - with the Hoops sitting in 5th, six points behind top of the table Hearts.

Here's what Charlie Nicholas has had to say when speaking to the Scottish Daily Star:

“I am not sure Brendan Rodgers will still be Celtic manager come the end of January,”

“It looks as if the relationship between Brendan and Peter Lawwell is broken. He is a top manager and there would be no shortage of clubs who would be keen to land him if he was to indicate he wanted to leave Celtic Park.”

“Clubs with big potential like Leicester City or Newcastle United could become available, or something even bigger.

"These clubs would be interested in Brendan."

If old reports are to be believed, Rodgers is a manager Ashley has looked at in the past, and our need for a new boss may be very real should Rafa fail to agree any new contract over the next six months.

It pays not to think about it, but if Benitez's upcoming meeting with Mike Ashley does not go well, we may have to start preparing ourselves for life after Rafa.

Would you take Rodgers if the worst was to happen?
