NUFC linked with bizarre January transfer - Would Rafa really do this?

According to reports in Italy, Rafa Benitez is now watching SPAL centre-back Francesco Vicari ahead of a potential January move - although another centre-back seems like the last thing we need right now.
It's claimed in Italian outlet Calciomercato that we've sent scouts to watch the former Italian U-21 defender and are now considering a January bid to sign the Serie A stopper, but it really doesn't add up to me (even if this is not the first time his name has been linked).
Lejeune may have suffered a long-term injury, but when he returns in the new year we'll have him, Lascelles, Fernandez, Clark and Schar able to play at centre-back - not forgetting that Dummett can play in this role quite comfortably.

Given the likelihood that Rafa's handed a modest budget in January, coupled with the fact we clearly need to sign players in attacking areas, this really would be a bizarre move from Benitez to sign yet another central defender.
Let's hope this is just paper talk and there's nothing in it. We do NOT need another centre-back.
