NUFC now looking to sign Wesley Moraes after 17-goal, 10-assist season - Reports

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to Corriere Dello Sport and the Chronicle, Newcastle are showing interest in a deal to sign Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes.

The 6ft 3' Brazilian has just come off the back of an impressive season in Belgium, with the 22-year-old scoring 17 goals and bagging 10 assists in all competitions across the 2018/19 campaign.

This is a link that's also been confirmed by the Chronicle's Lee Ryder, who claims that the club have watched Wesley on several occasions this season:

He's a player we have been linked with before over the past 12 months, but it seems we aren't the only ones interested, with Corriere Dello Sport claiming that both West Ham and Lazio are also keen to sign the striker.

The player's agent has claimed that both ourselves and West Ham have ‘come forward over the past few weeks’, something that makes you wonder if he is now being considered as a potential back-up option should we fail to sign Salomon Rondon on a permanent deal.

He fits the mould in terms of size and stature, and would no doubt tick plenty boxes as far as Mike Ashley's tedious transfer policy is concerned, however a 22-year-old who's yet to prove himself in any of Europe's top leagues would seem a risky alternative - even if he is highly rated in Belgium.

Here's him in action:
