Sheikh Khaled releases statement confirming takeover 'agreement' - & NUFC have responded

by Olly Hawkins ·

The Bin Zayed Group have now released a statement, revealing that they have 'agreed terms' with Mike Ashley and are 'working hard' to complete a takeover 'at the earliest opportunity' - a statement the club have confirmed IS genuine.

This comes after claims from the Middle-East that Sheikh Khaled had completed a £350m takeover at Newcastle United and, while they don't state that a deal is 'done', the fact terms have been agreed suggests things are very much moving in the right direction.

Midhat Kidwai, Managing Director of the Bin Zayed Group, has said the following in their latest statement, confirming 'discussions' with Mike Ashley and that an agreement has been reached:

“In response to numerous reports in the world media this morning, we would like to comment as follows.

“We can confirm the representatives of his Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan are in discussions with Mike Ashley and his team about the proposed acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club.

“We view it as an honour to have the opportunity to build on the strong support, history and tradition of the club.

“We have agreed terms and are working hard to complete the transaction at the earliest opportunity.”

As you can see above, it's also been confirmed that Newcastle United have confirmed that the above statement IS genuine - but they've refused to comment further.

Huge news, with it appearing as though BOTH parties have now confirmed that a deal is being discussed and could well go through.

Fingers crossed!
