Guillem Balague exposes Mike Ashley after breaking news confirms Rafa Benitez exit
Guillem Balague - a good friend of Rafa's - has revealed how Mike Ashley had 'no real interest' in keeping Benitez at the club following news of the Spaniard's exit at Newcastle United.
The Spanish reporter states that Newcastle did not communicate with Rafa, giving 'delayed answers' during talks and also issued 'false promises' - with him also claiming that they offered terms which did not come close to rewarding the work done by Benitez.
Here's what Balague has had to say on Twitter in the last few moments after an official statement from the club confirmed Rafa Benitez's departure:
"I have the impression that for some unfathomable reason there was not real interest in keeping him. Including renewal offers with no real reflection on the work done, delayed answers and false promises.
"Foreign teams will be knocking his door, but it will be a miss for the Premier League."
This sounds just like Mike Ashley - a man who has always cared more about the bottom line than Newcastle, and Rafa's exit proves that once again.
No one is bigger than Newcastle United, but Mike Ashley is doing his best to drive this club into the ground.
