Sky Sports respond to claims Joelinton could be set to sign for NUFC
Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves has confirmed that there is truth in claims Newcastle have a deal in place to sign Joelinton - with him believing that this move will go through.
This comes after the Telegraph claimed yesterday that we had a 'deal in place' to bring the Brazilian to St James' Park, with the Mail also claiming that Mike Ashley has sanctioned a big money move for the Hoffenheim star this week.
Here's what Graves has had to say after being quizzed about the 22-year-old's potential arrival this morning:
This is a funny one. We're in DESPERATE need of some quality additions in attacking areas after Perez's sale and Rondon's exit, but this also feels like a huge ploy from Mike Ashley to get fans 'back on side' just as season tickets have been put back on general sale.
I believe we have interest in him, with his name being mentioned in transfer reports for the best part of 6 months now, however I am still highly dubious about our willingness to pay the £30-35m+ that'll be required to secure his signature.
Not only that, is one of the Bundesliga's brightest young talents really going to sign under Steve Bruce? If so, you'd have to presume he'd be seeing the club as a route into Premier League football and some form of stepping stone.
