NUFC reporter makes shock transfer claim as club make move for Championship winger
The Chronicle's Mark Douglas has revealed that Newcastle are now looking to sign an unnamed Championship winger.
He admits that the mystery man plays in the second tier, but insists he's a 'good' player - with him also believing it's a deal that could well come off.
This comes after a recent piece claimed that Newcastle were interested in a 'English based winger', and Douglas has since given a little bit more information on the potential deal during an interaction with a curious NUFC fan on Twitter.
As you can see below, he says it's 'one that I think might come off', also insisting that he's a Championship player - but a 'good' one:
So, who could it be?
Jarrod Bowen is the first player that came to my mind. Bruce managed him at Hull, he looks too good for the Championship, he's young (Ashley will see pound signs re. sell on value) and he's been tipped to join a Premier League side for a while now.
Bretnford star Said Benrahma is another exciting young Championship winger who would fit the bill and fit into Ashley's buying policy, while Nottingham Forest's 22-year-old talent Joao Carvalho looks another more than capable of stepping up to Premier League level.
Time will tell, but it's time to get a move on with signings if we're serious about staying up next season!
