Video: Mike Ashley mocked by Alan Shearer after Saint-Maximin's screamer at Oxford
Alan Shearer has given a brilliant little back handed dig at Mike Ashley.
During his full time analysis of last night’s win at Oxford, BBC presenter and fellow Newcastle fan Gabby Logan asked Shearer if he thought that our exulted leader, who was in attendance, would maybe send a bottle of champagne down to Steve Bruce and the players.
“You sure? It costs money to buy Champagne you know!” was our record goal scorers deadpan response!
Regarding the game, if Bruce wants us to have a cup run he’s certainly providing us with value for money.
Allan Saint Maximin’s extra time banger sent us into the 5th round for the first time under Ashley’s ownership, which is a frankly embarrassing statistic.
We marched into a two goal lead lead thanks to brilliant goals from Joelinton and Sean Longstaff but nearly blew it due to an injury to the Brazilian striker and then poor game management from Bruce and the players.
Anyway we can look forward to a 5th round trip to West Brom, and if it had been easy it wouldn’t be Newcastle United!!
We have a winter break now before a trip to Arsenal on 17th February.
