NUFC mocked by Sunderland 'star' - but joke's on him as he's battered by Mags in the comments

by Charlie Bennett ·

Sunderland attacker Chris Maguire has told the club's Twitter page that he'd never want to sign for Newcastle United - a comment that's amused a few on Tyneside last night.

Maguire, who is one of their most popular players at the Stadium of Light, was doing a fan Q&A on Sunderland’s Twitter channel - and took a cheeky dig at ourselves in a desperate attempt to get one over their North-East rivals.

Asked by a Mackem if he’d rather sign for us or Rangers, he said this:

A few brilliant responses then emerged from Newcastle fans in the comments section that followed, with many being unmoved by the fact a League One midfielder (which some hadn't even heard of!) didn't fancy a move to a Premier League side:

"You'd be as well asking me....I have as much chance as him and I'm a lorry driver!"

"We’ve all heard of Newcastle and Rangers but no one knows who this bloke is....Swear I seen him on Netlifx"

"Funny thing is he'd leave #SAFC in a heartbeat to join either #NUFC or rangers tomorrow if he was good enough... Which he isn't.."

"This is the **** who celebrated like he scored the winner at Wembley against wu u21s.."

"Imagine being so bad that you look at a player that scored 2 goals in 24 games for Bury and say, "Yeah we'll have him"."

"I've read through every reply and still cant work out who the heck he actually is? Presuming a lower league footballer who played against our youth team last season in the cup.."

I have to admit even I would struggle to name the Mackem’s team these days, which shows just how irrelevant the unwashed have become!

Who is Chris Maguire kidding, he’d sign for us in a heartbeat if the opportunity came along - which it thankfully won’t!
