Saudi message to Mike Ashley leaked in new 'exclusive' - NUFC takeover now makes complete sense
Many fans, myself included, have been screaming for an official club statement about the takeover, even going as far as criticising Mike Ashley one last time for not doing so.
Now, if the Daily Mail is to be believed, it is actually the Saudis and Staveley who are wanting to remain tight-lipped on the situation.
Craig Hope’s 'exclusive' last night reports that Ashley was just 'hours' away from releasing a statement to confirm a £300m sale when the soon-to-be owners decided to pull the plug on an announcement due to it not being 100% completed - with it being the business custom in Saudi to only confirm a deal when it's official.
It would've been nice to get an update from those involved - especially the unpredictable Mike Ashley - but this seems like a fair approach given we are still waiting for that final green light.
The last hurdle left to climb is the Premier League’s ‘fit and proper person’ test, but it is not expected to be a concern.
With both parties staying silent and journalists filling in the blanks, it has caused a small dose of anxiety among our supporters, yet it's become increasingly clear this week that a deal is imminent and a case of when, not if.
It is hard to do, especially while the country is in lockdown, but we need to bide our time, relax, and wait a fortnight or so for this to all be finalised!
Cynicism remains from previous 'failed' attempts and Ashley's history, but it really is looking good this time..
