TWO consortiums now eyeing £300m takeover at NUFC should Saudi deal collapse - The Times

by Charlie Bennett ·

The Times' Chief Football Writer Henry Winter has revealed that TWO American groups are eyeing up a move for us should the Saudi-backed takeover fall through.

Some may fear this is an ominous sign that another saga awaits, however, he insists that the current bid is at a 'well-advanced stage', insinuating that it may be past the point of no return - which is excellent news!

Here's what he had to say, stating that both 'interested' American parties have the required funds to do a £300m deal - but may not get the chance to make a move should the Saudis pass the final takeover hurdle via Premier League approval:

So, it appears there are several parties interested in buying Newcastle right now, making potential buyers like London buses all of a sudden!

That said, the Saudi-backed buyers are said to have been granted 'exclusivity' on the deal until mid-May, meaning the Americans couldn't try and hijack the current deal on the table even if they wanted to right now.

Interesting claims from Winter, but he also states that 'everybody is expecting' a Saudi takeover to go through - despite complaints over ethics and broadcast deals, with rival clubs also said to be fearful of the threat a 'well-funded' and 'newly ambitious' NUFC could pose:

Knowing our luck and the recent agendas against NUFC, the Saudi deal will fall through, we’ll get bought out by the American’s, and you’ll have an army of journalists on social media blaming us for the assassination of JFK and Iraq War!
