Potential new owners plan 3 appointments & Ligue 1 raid after talks with 'no.1 target' - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to L'Equipe, the would-be owners of Newcastle United have already made "concrete contact" with Mauricio Pochettino over a potential move to St James' Park.

The same report also claims that the Saudi-backed consortium are preparing to appoint a new manager - ideally their 'no.1 target' Pochettino - along with a new Sporting Director' (Director of Football) and 'Academy Director'.

L'Equipe insists that the prospective buyers are "going to invest massively", however a snippet from their piece also suggests they'll shop smart in a bid to land high quality bargains available at a knockdown price.

With this in mind, they claim that a raid of Ligue 1 - a league hit hard by the coronavirus crisis - is on the cards, stating a number of French agents are ‘attentive’ to the situation and expecting Newcastle to make several moves in that market should a £300m takeover go through.

This is just me putting two and two together, but it's worth noting that several Ligue 1 players have been linked over the past week - Cavani (PSG), Sangare (Toulose), Dembele (Lyon),  Kouassi (PSG) and Maouassa (Rennes) to name a few.

It's another report that we can only get so excited about when a takeover is yet to be officially announced, but with there now being a growing feeling that official confirmation will arrive next week, it may not be long until we're finally getting those cans out of the fridge!
