Sky Sports - Saudis plan to pip Man Utd to the signing of '£20m' striker ahead of NUFC takeover
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle's potential new owners are 'interested' in bringing Odion Ighalo to Tyneside should the Saudi takeover be completed.
Ighalo is currently on loan at Man United from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, but they report that they're facing competition for his signature on a permanent deal, with him set to be available for £20m this summer.
He was a surprise addition to the Red Devils squad in January, but has scored four goals in eight appearances since his move to Old Trafford.
His loan deal is set to expire next at the end of this month, with him returning for the start of the Chinese Super League season in July, however it seems Man Utd may face a battle to keep the Nigerian if Sky Sports are to be believed.
He has a very respectable goal record at every club he has been at - bagging 18 goals during his last season with with Watford - with Troy Deeney yesterday calling him “the best strike partner he has played with” throughout his career.
At 30, he would not be a long-term option going forward and hardly the high profile signing or 'dream' buy some fans crave, but for £20m he could guarantee us goals in the Premier League and give us a far more reliable option than the current crop.
