Newcastle set to make loan move for Spurs winger & Bruce keen on Norwich star - Report
According to an 'exclusive' from The Sun, Steve Bruce is set to make a loan bid for Tottenham talent Ryan Sessegnon.
The report claims the 20-year-old winger is one of the NUFC boss' top targets, but also reveals that he is a big fan of Norwich centre-back Ben Godfrey.
That said, the England U-21 international won't come cheap (and I don't see us spending big on another centre-back!), making a loan move for Sessegnon seems like a far more realistic option given Bruce's budget is said to be just £30m plus player sales this summer.
Sessegnon, who can play out wide or as a wing-back, completed a £25m move from Fulham to Spurs last summer, however he's struggled for game time since.
He made just 12 appearances in all competitions during his first year at the Spurs, bagging one goal and an assist in that time, and has struggled badly for minutes since Jose Mourinho got the job late last year, with him failing to feature at all in their final 14 games of the 2019/20 season.
He's a talented player and tore us apart three years ago, scoring twice as a 17-year-old when Fulham beat us at St James' Park in 2017, yet his goalscoring record of two goals in 41 Premier League appearances is something he'd need to improve on given our desperate need for final product.
With Bruce's limited budget in mind, this won't be the first time we're linked with a loan move for a player struggling for game time at a 'top six' side!
Sessegnon could be a handy addition on loan, giving us more pace and trickery in wide areas, however the focus must be on bringing in a proven striker who knows where the goal is.
