Sky Sports confirm NUFC target is now in 'advanced talks' to sign for Wolves
Over the past 48 hours, both Sky Sports and the BBC revealed that Steve Bruce was interested in signing Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer.
A loan move seemed like our most likely option given his £20m asking price seemed like something our £30m budget wouldn't allow for, and it seems that's proved costly.
As revealed by Sky Sports his afternoon, Wolves are now in 'advanced talks' to sign the England U-21 star on a four-year deal - suggesting we've already been beaten to his signature:
Sadly, it's not only our reluctance to spend that's let us down here, with most Mags accepting that a move to Molineux is currently more desirable than St James' Park these days - with one an ambitious club knocking on the door of the top six and the other settling for safety and stalling under Mike Ashley.
Maitland-Niles would've been a good signing, being a versatile player with real pace and power, however it looks like he'll be playing his football in the the West Midland this season.
