Bruce reveals extent of Saint-Maximin & Lewis injuries & makes Morecambe promise

by Olly Hawkins ·

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Allan Saint-Maximin (ankle) and Jamal Lewis (eye) will both miss tomorrow's Carabao Cup clash at Morecambe - but it's not all bad news on the injured duo.

Saint-Maximin rolled his ankle in Sunday's 0-3 battering at the hands of Brighton and Jamal Lewis took studs to the face from Yves Bissouma, however Bruce believes neither injury is bad.

He says Sant-Maximin 'has a chance' for Sunday's trip to Tottenham, also confirming that there's been 'no lasting damage' to Lewis' eye - despite it being totally closed up as we speak.

Here's what he's had to say:

"Saint-Maximin has had a scan on his ankle and we don't think it's that bad. He won't make tomorrow night but has a chance for Sunday.

"We were worried about Jamal's eye and it's completely closed but thankfully there's no lasting damage to it."

Elsewhere, the NUFC boss has also vowed to put out a 'strong team' ahead of tomorrow's trip to Morecambe - with the game handing us a chance to play one of Watford or Newport County in the last 16:

"We will put a strong team out and there are people that desperately need to play.

"We could have seven games in the first three weeks of the season.

"Game management of a few will be critical but we will make changes."

"Whoever I pick tomorrow, it’s a challenge to them to try to force their way into the team for Sunday.

"We need to get a few people playing - I’ll change it around bit, and we'll have a bit of experience."

So, there'll be plenty changes tomorrow - and there should be after Sunday's capitulation - but he's promising to take the cup seriously.

There'll be no ASM or Lewis, however it's good to hear both will be back soon.
