Watch Rodrigo Vilca score his first goal for Newcastle United in 5-goal thriller - Video

by Olly Hawkins ·

New recruit Rodrigo Vilca has scored his first goal for Newcastle United, finishing brilliantly in our U-23's entertaining affair with Stoke City.

With Covid cases through the roof at one point, the Peruvian was briefly tipped to be included in Steve Bruce's squad for the West Brom game.

However, he was named in the second string's starting 11 to face Stoke on Friday night and played a big part in what proved to be a five-goal thriller.

Here's his 48th minute goal to give us a 2-0 lead in a game we'd go on to win 3-2 at Whitley Park:

An impressive finish from the 21-year-old who arrived from  Deportivo Municipal in October!

The game also featured strikes from Senegalese-born striker Yannick Toure and Stan Flaherty - the ex-Arsenal winger who took his tally for the season up to an impressive five goals and two assists.

A good win for the U-23's and one that takes us to just one point away from the play-off spots in the Premier League 2.

Under-23 XI: Oliver Marshall, Ryan Barrett, Jude Swailes (Josh Scott 45), Ludwig Francillette, Lucas Gamblin, Brad Cross, Niall Brookwell, Jack Young (c), Stan Flaherty, Rodrigo Vilca (George Rounsfell 90), Yannick Toure.
