Newcastle 'close' to loan agreement for Napoli outcast after contacting players agent - Report
Pinch of salt alert, but it's being reported that Newcastle are 'close' to agreeing a loan deal for previously linked Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam.
This comes from Le Buteur - the leading football news outlet in Algeria - who state that we have contacted the left-back's agent, Jorge Mendes, and are closing in on a deal for the 29-year-old.
Ghoulam is able to play anywhere down the left-hand side and has been forced to settle for a bit-part role with Napoli this season, with six of his seven Serie A appearances coming from the bench.
Time will tell if this latest transfer rumour has any legs, however it would make some sense considering this comes a few days after we'd reportedly given up up in our pursuit of Man Utd full-back Brandon Williams.
Jetro Willems is the left-back most Mags want to see us go for, although that awful ACL injury has meant he hasn't kicked a ball in competitive action for almost 12 months now - meaning he's anything but a ready-made option to come straight into Bruce's side.
As for Ghoulam, this isn't the first time we've been linked with the experienced Algerian international, with it reported in Italy this time last year that we'd had an 'opening offer' rejected for the former Saint-Etienne star.
Are we really are interested 12 months later? We shall see.
