Bruce names positives & negatives from Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle & responds to relegation questions

by Olly Hawkins ·

Steve Bruce has been speaking to Sky Sports following our flat performance and deserved defeat at Chelsea.

He believes we 'sat off them' in the first half and wasn't happy with our defending from set pieces, feeling they bypassed us 'far too easily'.

Bruce has, however, taken a 'few positives' from our slightly improved second half display, claiming he was 'far happier' with our urgency on and off the ball.

Here's what the Newcastle United boss has had to say following our Monday night loss at Stamford Bridge, starting with his response to our awful first half:

The NUFC boss then revealed why he took 'positives' from our second half display:

Bruce then responded to questions about the relegation fight we now find ourselves in, with Fulham now seven points behind us with a game in hand, better goal difference and Burnley and Sheffield United to come before we play next:

We were better in the second half, but I didn't see enough to be 'happy', with us still looking flat and lacking in fight, intensity or ideas without star man Callum Wilson.

Let's hope we are much better at Old Trafford on Sunday night - especially when Fulham could well have closed the gap even further between now and then!
