Forget the Saudis, the irony of this new Mike Ashley claim must not be lost on NUFC fans

Perhaps Mike Ashley is under the strange delusion that he’s Luke Skywalker to the Premier League’s Emperor Palpatine, because his latest quotes certainly seem to imply so.

After the news that the HMRC case was being dropped, Ashley emerged with a rare statement regarding the failed takeover.

Here’s what Ashley had to say today about the takeover:

“It is now time for the dark forces that are preventing this football club from becoming the power house that the fans deserve, to step aside.”

Of course, the irony in this statement is absolutely ridiculous. The darkest force to ever encase Newcastle in shadow and prevent us from being the power house that we deserve is Mike Ashley himself.

He is, and has always been, the reason that we haven’t progressed for 14 years.

If a takeover ever goes through, if we ever get a chance to progress and become something great, it needs to be acknowledged that Ashley was never the reason.

There can never be forgiveness for what Mike Ashley has done to our club. Half my supporting life has been miserable because of him and some fans only know a life under his regime. There is no darker force than Mike Ashley for Newcastle United.
