Club now in 'advanced talks' to beat Newcastle United to summer bargain - Report

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to Wales Online, Swansea look set to be Newcastle United to the signing of Wigan Athletic star Kyle Joseph.

They report that the highly-rated striker is now in 'advanced talks' with the Swans and set to sign at the Liberty Stadium on a free transfer this summer.

Over the past month, both The Mail and The Chronicle have confirmed our interest in Joseph - a 19-year-old Scottish youth international.

It was suggested he may have arrived at St James' Park to give us another option up top ahead of Andy Carroll's exit, however Wales Online now claim that Swansea have held 'positive talks' with the forward - stating they look set to beat ourselves, Celtic, Rangers, Preston North End and Sheffield United to a deal.

In reality, he may well have picked the right move at this stage of his career, with him likely to get the game time at Swansea Steve Bruce may not have been able to offer him.

After all, we had two talented local lads available to us over the final few weeks of the season in Elliot Anderson and Matty Longstaff, yet the pair didn't appear once across the run-in, with the latter yet to play since January and the former still waiting for his Premier League debut.

Saying that, signing Joseph on a free could prove to be an absolute bargain for Swansea and one we wish we'd snapped up should he take the Championship by storm next season!
