Newcastle 'split' over Steve Bruce target - Player could now sign for Crystal Palace instead - Report
According to The Sun's Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace could beat Newcastle to a deal for Watford midfielder Will Hughes.
He claims that Steve Bruce is eager to sign the 26-year-old, however, it's his understanding that his recruitment team are not sold on a move for the former Derby star.
As a result, Nixon claims that club are 'split' over his signing, giving Crystal Palace the opportunity to swoop in.
Hughes has barely kicked a ball over pre-season, hasn't been training with the squad and missed out on their opening day win over Aston Villa, with him currently refusing to sign a new deal.
He's entered the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road and could therefore be available at a cut-price fee this summer, however it seems Bruce is struggling to convince the club to make a move.
Personally, I feel like it would be more of the same if we signed Hughes. He's a tidy player who works hard, but will he add that defensive steal or dynamism our engine room often lacks? I don't think so.
