Newcastle offered Chelsea midfielder & three others if we agree to pay big loan fees - Report
In his latest piece for i news, Mark Douglas has revealed a few expensive loan deals that could become available to Newcastle United in the final 10 days of the transfer window.
He reports that Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been offered our way by intermediaries, with the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Juventus' Aaron Ramsey and Tottenham's Dele Alli also likely to be available if 'big loan fees' are paid.
While a move to bring Wijnaldum back to St James' Park would be an exciting one, it's interesting to see Loftus-Cheek mentioned as a potential option.
This is the first time he's been linked with a potential January switch, despite us often being credited with an interest in signing the 25-year-old on loan during Rafa Benitez's time on Tyneside.
The 6ft 3' ball-carrying midfielder was actually handed a run of starts by Thomas Tuchel over the festive period and often performed well when called upon, however he's not featured for the Blues since a mid-December draw with Everton.
Given the lack of power, presence or dynamism in our engine room at present, he could be a brilliant loan signing, with Douglas predicting that the loan market will suddenly become a fruitful one in the final few days of the transfer window:
'They [Newcastle] are by no means the only team experiencing issues of players being available and that has led agents and executives to predict the loan market may be the way for selling clubs to find value in the latter days of the window.
'Georginio Wijnaldum, Delle Alli, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Aaron Ramsey are among the internationals whose names are being circulated around clubs by intermediaries with big loan fees being touted.'
This may well be another reason why we were trying to sign Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal, as we may be keen to leave our two domestic loan slots open heading into the final week of the window?
