Newcastle set to hold talks with Championship star over summer move to St James' Park?
According to The Independent, Newcastle are one of several Premier League clubs pushing to sign Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson this summer.
The report states that Brentford have already offered the 20-year-old personal terms in a bid to force their way to the front of the queue, however the same piece states that Newcastle, Everton, Leicester and Villarreal are set to hold talks.
Johnson is the latest second tier star tipped to make the step up to Premier League level this summer, being named EFL young player of the year after his 16 goals and nine assists have helped Forest mount a late push for promotion.
The Welsh international is also incredibly versatile, being able to play as a false number nine, down either flank or as an attacking midfielder.
After seeing the likes of James Maddison, Jarrod Bowen, Jude Bellingham, Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma shine following big money moves from the Championship, it feels like Johnson is the latest EFL talent we'd do very well to sign this summer.
The Independent claim he's valued at around '£20-25m' by Forest. A decent fee for his lack of experience but one that will seem like a snip in years to come I'm sure.
