Failed medical sees proposed move collapse as ex-Mag is denied Champions League football - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to Belgian outlet HLN, former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll has missed out on a move to play Champions League football with Club Brugge after a failed medical.

The 33-year-old had been on his honeymoon in Mexico, but was in discussions with the Belgian champions over the possibility of a short-term deal.

As talks progressed, the former England international left his holiday early to travel to Brugge for a medical ahead of his proposed move.

It has now been revealed that the European side have turned down the chance to sign the 6ft 4' Geordie following a number of 'failed' physical tests which the club found 'insufficient'.

Carroll will now remain a free agent and is hunting for a new club after spending two seasons at Championship side's Reading and West Brom - spending four months under former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce.
