Senior official spotted watching Allan Saint-Maximin as new report reveals 'real' interest
Following reports linking Spurs and Chelsea with a potential summer move for Allan Saint-Maximin, The Chronicle have confirmed that interest from both is 'real.'
As revealed by Lee Ryder, Spurs had a scout watching the Frenchman during April's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at St. James’ Park, with senior officials said to be keeping a close eye on the former Nice star.
Chelsea have also been monitoring the 25-year-old - who Newcastle value in excess of £40m - for ‘some time', according to the report.
However, Saint-Maximin is believed to be very happy on Tyneside and is still seen as a key player by Eddie Howe; who has recently backed the winger to deliver a big season.
Maxi bagged five goals and five assists last term, but has never scored against either of his potential suitors in 11 total appearances against them – only assisting once in that time, setting up Isaac Hayden’s 94th minute winner against Chelsea in January 2020.
I can't see either club upping their interest this summer, with Raheem Sterling arriving at Chelsea and Spurs recently signing the likes of Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, but, in one way or another, it does feel like we're entering a defining 12 months ahead for ASM.
