Man Utd hijack Newcastle’s loan bid as player indicates desire to sign - The Athletic

by Andrew Reynolds ·

Manchester United are looking to hijack Newcastle's loan move for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic with the player said to be keen, according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old has been rumoured to be wanted by Newcastle along with Chelsea teammates Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Armando Broja - all likely to be loan moves.

However, Man United are now looking to hijack this deal for the USMNT captain who has expressed a desire to leave the London-based club over a lack of playing time in the build up to the World Cup.

Since signing from Borussia Dortmund for £58million in 2019, the winger has struggled heavily with injuries, but has impressed when fully fit and even averages a goal contribution every 159 minutes.

For Newcastle, the move is ideal as the young man can play in all three forward positions - an area where we lack real quality in depth - and his record when fit blows our current options out of the water.

Naturally, the prestige of playing for Man United is typically enough to sway a player, but with the current toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford, the positivity and excitement on Tyneside should play a factor in his decision.
