Newcastle faced with THREE new fitness concerns ahead Carabao Cup clash with Tranmere
Rotation was always to be expected, but it looks like Eddie Howe will be forced into a few changes ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash at Tranmere.
Dan Burn has been ruled out of the game with concussion, with him coming off during yesterday's 3-3 draw with Man City after Sven Botman accidentally booted the ball in the big man's face.
Ryan Fraser is also an early doubt, as Eddie Howe revealed that the winger 'felt his groin' in the warm up - which explains why Jacob Murphy came on instead of the Scot on Sunday.
Last but not least, Callum Wilson hasn't suffered an injury, but he clearly won't be risked on Wednesday night after complaining of tightness in his hamstring.
Here's what Howe's had to say ahead of the Carabao Cup clash, revealing three new fitness concerns ahead of our trip to Merseyside:
“We’re desperate to do well in the cups – I’ve made that very clear. But we have to be mindful that we’ve got a very packed schedule.
"I don’t quite know (the team) at this moment in time. We’ll have to see how the injuries are.
"Obviously, Dan Burn’s got a concussion. I don’t think he’ll play. So we’re going to be forced into changes. How many changes, I don’t know. But we’ll pick a team to try and win the match.”
“We had a couple of issues in the game. Ryan Fraser, I couldn’t bring on, because he was feeling his groin in the warm-up. He would’ve been a very important player for us if we were able to use him, but we didn’t have that luxury.”
“Callum was feeling his hamstring at half-time. It was just a tightness, nothing more than that, but we were aware watching him in the second half that he wasn’t fully opening up.
“We felt at that moment the team probably needed someone who could fully sprint, and we just wanted to protect him from serious injury.”
