Newcastle now pushing to sign €35m Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder - L'Equipe
According to reports in France, Newcastle have turned their attention to Manu Kone in search of a new central midfielder.
This comes via L'Equipe, who report that we've 'made a push' to sign the Borussia Mönchengladbach star, identifying him as a priority target over the final week and a half of the transfer window.
The report claims that we haven't submitted a formal offer just yet, however Newcastle have informed the Bundesliga club that we'd be willing to pay 'over €35m' for the 21-year-old talent.
However, L'Equipe believe that the German side have 'pushed back' our proposal, insisting that the player will not leave this summer as they bid to improve on a disappointing 10th place finish last season.
Kone is a France U21 international who joined the German side from Toulouse back in January 2021. Since then, he's made 32 appearances for Mönchengladbach, scoring three times and starting in each of their opening three games so far this term.
With Jonjo Shelvey out until December and talk of a new midfielder being back on the agenda, could this be another one to watch?
