Belgian star now one to watch if Newcastle's Saudi owners release more funds - Luke Edwards

by Olly Hawkins ·

Back in July, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards revealed that Newcastle United had been showing interest in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

He stated that a deal looked 'unlikely' at the time, but has issued a fresh update on the Foxes star who's being tipped to leave for around £30m after entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Edwards claims that a move for the 25-year-old could be one to watch IF our Saudi-backed owners back Eddie Howe with additional funds over the final few days of the transfer window.

He claims that wages and the fee were a problem earlier in the window, but wonders if another big-money move might be possible after we went from a low-ball bid for James Maddison to securing Alexander Isak on a club-record deal.

The Telegraph's man in the North-East seems to think a loan move is more likely, as last week's move for the Real Sociedad star may have used up all that remains of our summer budget, however the wantaway Belgian's potential availability may just tempt our owners to release more funds.

Here's what Edwards wrote on Twitter in an intriguing update on Tielemans; who would be a top quality addition in our search for another deep-lying playmaker:
