Embarrassing Sky Sports interview now exposed as Toon fans make Wolves star look silly
Ruben Neves may be a very talented footballer, but he's been made to look pretty silly since Sunday's 1-1 draw at Wolves.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Portuguese midfielder had this to say about Newcastle's display at Molineux:
"Their style of play is like that. Just long balls and second balls. They are not a team that wants to have the possession."
Needless to say, Toon fans were having absolutely none of it, and soon responded on social media with a host of stats that make a mockery of Neves' post-match claims.
"Just long balls and second balls" - Wolves played 61 long balls to Newcastle's 55, while no player on the pitch attempted more long passes than who else but Ruben Neves (13). The irony is golden.
"They are not a team that wants to have the possession." - Newcastle had 64% possession, completing 412 short passes to Wolves' 209. We also had 21 shots to Wolves' 10.
Neves then rounded it off by claiming that Fabian Schar should've been sent off for almost "breaking Neto's leg." Another shoddy excuse from the visibly rattled midfielder, with VAR replays showing it was a yellow and nothing more.
Perhaps this amusing video created by a Newcastle account on social media will cheer him up...
