New loan target emerges after Eddie Howe's telling transfer message to BBC Newcastle

Eddie Howe is not expecting a particularly busy end to the transfer window - but admits the club are "still looking" should the right deal emerge.

On that subject, The Mail's Craig Hope has confirmed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles has emerged as a loan option, with this coming after TalkSPORT revealed our interest in the 25-year-old earlier today.

It remains to be seen if he'll be allowed to leave after new injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey, but it seems Howe is keen on the versatile Gunner who spent part of last season at Roma.

Speaking to BBC Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck during this morning's press conference, the Toon boss believes there'll be no more "major business" done before the 11pm deadline on Thursday, however his comments suggest one or two loans may yet be pursued.

He insists we are not "closed off" to further incomings, with Emil Krafth (ACL) out for six to nine months and Jonjo Shelvey sidelined until December, although it seems most of our injuries are "short-term."

With this in mind, coupled with the fact we've just spent almost £60m on Alexander Isak, it feels like it'll be loans or nothing over the next few days.

Here's what Howe told BBC Newcastle earlier today, with his transfer update also featuring his take on Martin Dubravka's potential move to Manchester United:

"I don't expect to be to be honest. We're very pleased with the business we've done.

"The injuries we have we believe to be short-term so there might be a bit of short-term pain around the squad. Longer term, when those bodies are back, we're very strong.

"That's not to say we're totally closed off. We're obviously still looking but I don't expect any major business to be done."
