Newcastle announce 4th exit of the day as forgotten defender seals late move

Newcastle United have confirmed that Kell Watts has completed a deadline day move to Peterborough United.

The 22-year-old defender joins the League One side - who are currently fourth in the third tier - on a half-season loan deal until January.

He is currently sidelined with a knee injury which required surgery over pre-season, meaning he was unable to feature in several of our pre-season friendlies - a huge shame for the Alnwick-born defender after he was handed a chance to impress Eddie Howe.

However, considering he's set to be sidelined for another four weeks, it's good to see he's landed a decent loan move in the final few hours of the summer window.

Watts spent last season at Wigan, making 35 appearances in all competitions as he helped the Latics earn promotion back to the Championship.

Here's what Peterborough boss Grant McCann has had to say about Watts' arrival:

“I am delighted to get Kelland. He won the league with Wigan Athletic last season at this level, he is 6ft 4, strong in the air and comfortable on the ball and is a left-sided centre back, so I am pleased we have managed to get it over the line. He has a really good pedigree and is an excellent defender.

“The only downside to it is that he is currently injured, it might take him three or four weeks to get back and available for selection, but we wanted to wait for him. We had other options that we were exploring, but he was top of the list and we were prepared to wait because of how good a player he is.”
