Newcastle set to announce double exit as three close in on deadline day moves - The Telegraph

by Olly Hawkins ·

As revealed by The Telegraph, Federico Fernandez and Matty Longstaff are closing in on late moves away from St James' Park, with Martin Dubravka also expected to join Manchester United before the 11pm deadline.

Starting with Fede, Luke Edwards has confirmed that the 33-year-old is currently on his way to Spain to sign La Liga side Elche.

He insists that the Argentine is 'hugely popular' in the dressing room and a 'favourite' of Eddie Howe's, however he is eager to play regularly at this stage of his career and has slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Dan Burn and Sven Botman.

It is not clear if he'll leave on a permanent deal or on loan, but it's fair to assume he's played his last game for the club now his contract is due to expire next summer.

As for Matty Longstaff, he is set to join League One side Barnsley on an initial loan deal that could be made permanent next summer once his contract on Tyneside runs out.

After breaking onto the scene under Steve Bruce back in 2019, it's been a tough few years for the 22-year-old, with contract issues, a lack of game time and an unsuccessful loan spell at Aberdeen not helping his cause.
