Sky Sports: Newcastle now in talks to sign 20-year-old talent from Premier League rivals
Some 'breaking news' has emerged from Sky Sports in the last few moments, confirming Newcastle United have entered talks with West Ham over a move for Harrison Ashby.
They report that the highly-rated youngster could be brought in to provide cover for Kieran Trippier, with us losing second choice right-back Emil Krafth for up to nine months after the Swede suffered a devastating ACL injury last week.
The technically gifted 20-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current deal at the London Stadium, meaning the Hammers could be forced to cash in now or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Keith Downie insist that it would be a first-team signing - not one for our Academy - suggesting he would be filling in for Krafth and competing with Javier Manquillo. That said, he wouldn't take up a place in our 25-man squad as a player under the age of 21.
Ashby - a Scotland U21 international - started in West Ham's 3-1 victory against Viborg in the first leg of the Europa Conference League qualifiers, also making his Premier League debut last year in 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
